Alocasia ‘Black Velvet’ (Alocasia reginula) is a popular houseplant native to Southeast Asia. It has beautiful dark, rough leaves with prominent white veins. Black velvet thrives in moist soil and bright, indirect light.
Exposing them to full sun will burn their foliage. Just like any other alocasia family, they are not drought-tolerant. Allow top soil to dry before watering again.
Fertilization during their growing season will help produce more healthy, bigger leaves. Alocasia black velvet is susceptible to root rot so be careful with your watering. This plant does not tolerate temperatures below 50 degrees F., so mimick the environment of this plant from where they’re native for them to thrive.
The best way to propagate them is via leaf and stem cuttings. You can grow them in USDA Hardiness Zone 10. Black Velvet is toxic to humans and pets, so make sure not to mingle with them.

You will receive one LIVE Alocasia ‘Black Velvet’ Elephant Ear Plant, potted in a 4″ pot in soil.
NOTE: For the live plants orders we ship on Monday – Wed only to prevent the live plants from sitting over the weekend before delivery.
Shipping notes: Because your plant has been in a box without sunlight for a few days in shipping, it might decide to yellow and drop few leaves when it first arrives. This is normal. (If it loses all leaves, this is not normal, and you should contact us.) Adjust your plant to the light very slow, don’t put it on bright sun right away, wait for about 5 days.
PLANTS ARE NOT PERFECT! While we try our best to make sure every plant looks amazing, it is possible that a small burn spot or tiny hole may be present. We do grow our plants organically and some are grown outside, so its possible for nature to make a small imperfection.
We are bee and butterfly friendly nursery. We use minimal spraying and as much natural means to take care of our pests as much as possible. You might get few holes on leaves, it’s normal the plant won’t die.
