The Mature Opuntia ‘Honey Mike’ is native to Mexico. This cactus has round pads instead of oval. It is covered in cream colored spines. “Dots” of tiny spines detach easily and can irritate the skin and eyes. It is in the Prickly Pear family. It does well in full sun to partial shade.
The prickly pear family can be used as a very nice contrast to other cacti and succulents. Prickly pears are also very low maintenance. They will tolerate the hottest areas of your landscape. The prickly pear family also thrives on very little water and can take very cold overnight temperatures.
Cactus plants are among the hardiest, most drought-tolerant in the world and very easy to maintain, as long as they are planted in a porous cactus/succulent soil, given proper drainage, daily bright light, and not over watered. Water whenever the soil is very dry several inches below the surface. Water deeply, but don’t let them sit in wet soil, which can cause root rot.
You will receive 1 well-established, rooted plant, from an 8 inch diameter pot, sent bareroot and packaged with great care. It will be shipped via USPS Priority mail.
If you are ordering from an area with weather below 32 degrees, please consider purchasing a heat pack.
