With its unique name and look, Dragon Fruit is a favorite amongst the tropical fruit lovers and for good reason! Exotic look, delicious flavor, and beautiful flowering, these plants will make any garden pop. Belonging to the Cactus family Dragon fruit is a hard plant that can grow in warm, dry conditions, and in about any type of growing medium.
Halley’s Comet – Halley’s Comet produces large fruits weighing between 1-2 pounds. Halley’s Comet is slightly slower growing than some other varieties, though that can sometimes be desirable when you see how quickly they grow. Partially self-fertile though it’s still recommended to pollinate with another variety for maximum fruit production.
Edgar Baby – ‘Edgar’s Baby’ has a sweet and tangy, reddish inner flesh with tiny, edible, black seeds. The round, red fruit has prominent scales on the outer rind. This red-fleshed variety contains lycopene, a natural antioxidant.
Planting and Growing tips:
1.) Plant your cutting in good draining soil if possible. Dragon fruit is a climber so they need to be placed something they can grow up such as a tree, barrel, wood stake, or lattice.
2.) Let them get good sun as they are from the cactus plant and thrive in these conditions.
3.) You do not need to over water and can thrive on water every couple of days.
4.) Once they begin to climb up they will start to produce off shoots. Once those are a decent size you can trim them off and use them to propagate. This will also help introduce more new growth to your plant.
