This plant is the Large Beaucarnea Recurvata, also known as the Ponytail Palm. It is made up of a large bulb with many thin, pointed green leaves. Despite the name it is not related to the palms, but is actually a succulent, related to the Agave. These are great indoor plants if you have good or high light conditions. They do like some humidity in their environment. In a dry environment the tips of their leaves can turn brown. If the brown tips are trimmed the new ends will then turn brown, so it is best to just leave them with the brown ends on the long, thin leaves.

The main cause of these plants perishing is over watering. The plant stores water in the bulb at the base of the plant. Checking the soil is not an accurate indicator of whether the plant requires watering. Instead place the plant in a high light area so that it uses more water and water it less often, about every two weeks. Hardy to 36 degrees.
